Cool Green Glowing Mushrooms

photo from io9.com

The Science-Fiction blog IO9.com has an article about mushrooms that glow!  I knew about the jellyfish that glow, and I get fireflies in the backyard every summer, but I didn't know that there were mushrooms that glow.

Apparently they are well known in Japan, and now National Geographic is reporting a new species from Brasil.

Are they natural or like the neon guppies - genetically engineered?

These mushrooms are all natural. The Nat Geo report is about new species found in Brazil's tropical forests. Apparently there are 33 species world wide that are known to be bioluminescent.
